ICTP Inaugurates New Lecture Hall Dedicated to Euler and Lagrange

ICTP inaugurated a new lecture hall and a suite of classrooms after a major renovation of space used by its Postgraduate Diploma Programme. The newly refurbished lecture hall, housed in the Centre's Leonardo Building, has been named “Euler-Lagrange” in honour of the two renowned scientists whose collaborative work has had a lasting impact on both physics and mathematics. As part of the inauguration, ICTP held a colloquium by Professor Alberto Cogliati of the University of Padua, entitled "Joseph-Louis Lagrange: A Glimpse into His Life and Contributions". Dirac Medal 2024 Ceremony Honours Four Medallists

ICTP honoured the four recipients of its 2024 Dirac Medal in a ceremony on Wednesday 2 April. All four 2024 medallists have made pioneering contributions to the understanding of quantum entropy in gravity and quantum field theory. The awardees are: Horacio Casini, CONICET and Bariloche Atomic Centre, Argentina, Marina Huerta, CONICET and Bariloche Atomic Centre, Argentina, Shinsei Ryu, Princeton University, United States, and Tadashi Takayanagi, Kyoto University, Japan. ICTP Joins New AI Initiative in Trieste

ICTP and several other Trieste science institutes celebrated the launch of a major AI initiative coordinated by Trieste-based insurance giant Generali. The launch of the new Agorai initiative on 8 April sets it on course to become a reference for applied and basic research in data science and advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI), in Italy and internationally. The project has the ambition to place the future of humanity and of planet Earth at the centre of science and technological development in AI, summarised by the motto "Humanaize the Future".
